Family Science Night is an evening program for elementary schools designed for parents to self-guide their students through twelve engaging, hands-on STEM activities. The activities are aligned with the Virginia Standards of Science Learning.

2017-2018 Family Science Night Overview

Schools are asked to provide a minimum of 18 volunteers for their event. The Children’s Science Center provides all supplies and equipment. There is a nominal fee to host a Family Science Night; however, this fee is waived entirely for Title I Schools.

Due to an abundance of interest in the Family Science Night program, a blind drawing is held each spring to select the 50 lucky schools that will host a Family Science Night event. To enter the drawing, please submit an application below.

  • Applications for the 2017-18 academic year will be available on this site beginning on March 1, 2017.
  • Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on April 30, 2017 in order to be included in the drawing.
  • The drawing will take place on May 1, 2017 and selected schools will be notified via email.

We welcome volunteers to help staff Family Science Nights.
